[1921] Manu in San Jose, CA Don't Stock
Honda Oil Filters
I know
they close at 6. They are 15 minutes drive from my home
and I got their by 5.45 pm. They was their and
one shutter was down and one was open. I parked in their
and waited for them. After some time an employee came to
me and told me that they dont have Oil filters for my car
( Honda Accord).
I
know that employee just made an excuse to me. I
decided not to report on sites like yelp because I love
jiffy lube. Please report my issue so this dont happen to

[1920] Vaughn
in Centreville, VA Deceptive Business
Practices
January 31, 2012. I asked for a
simple oil change and left with a $171.38 bill. One of
the representatives told me that I needed a power steering
flush because the manufacturer recommended it. And, I was
charged a High Mileage Supplement ($15) without my
approval.
The only reason I agreed to the power
steering flush is because the Jiffy Lube representative
lied about Honda recommending the flush. This is not
true, as I found out later, because the fluid is
considered a lifetime fluid, and the Honda manual does not
list this service item.
I would like a refund of the $89.99
paid for the power steering flush and the $15 for the high
millage additive.

in Lincoln, NE Would Not Honor Rapid Cash
I am
requesting to be contacted regarding a recent experience I
had at
Jiffy Lube
on
5111 O St. in Lincoln, NE.
As a long time customer, I bought some Rapid Lube cash
during a recent promotion. Unfortunately, Rapid Lube was
bought out not long after I purchased the it. I was glad
that Jiffy Lube would honor it and used the cash on
several occasions. Today, I stopped at the store just
before five. I talked to two employees and told them that
I would have to return later because I forgot my Rapid
Lube cash. They said that would be fine.
When
I returned at 6 pm, I was confronted by the manager who
said that he would not accept the rapid cash because it
was longer than a year after it was issued. The Rapid Cash
has no expiration date on it. The assistant manager who I
normally deal with had never brought up the possibility
that it would expire. The two other employees did not know
that the cash expired. I wasted an hour of my day
traveling back and forth only to be told by the manager
that he understood but would not accept the rapid cash
anyway because he would "lose his job".

in Beverly, MA Stole $500
I just got an oil change this
afternoon [January 31] from the Beverly, MA Jiffy Lube. I
had $500 cash in my glove compartment (which was locked)
before my oil change. Afterwards, the cash was nowhere to
be found. I spoke with the manager and even called the
police, but they said with no hard evidence, there was
nothing they can do.
A $500+ oil change?!! Ridiculous. I
am pissed.
[1916] Nina
Taking Advantage of a Woman
I
had the worst experience at Jiffy Lube! They changed my
oil and put in a wrong oil filter. They did not tightin
any thing properly and my oil was leaking out. I took it
to the mechanic the next day and he said I would of lost
my car if he did not see that. They told me I had to
replace the belt and I didn't have to. They told me to
flush rediator when I just did that. The manager was very
rude and argumentive. He was trying to say they did not do
anything wrong.
[1915] Tony
in Anaheim, CA $10 Special Better Than $25
Coupon
I had
previous experience when the technician forgot to check
the tire pressures. So I reminded them before starting the
service, I watched over the service and never saw the
tires checked, so when the service was complete I asked if
they were sure the pressures were checked, they responded
yes all was fine. When I got home I found 2 tires at 25
and 2 at 30, when I requested 35. It had not been checked,
when back they apologized but offered no explanation.
They also
told me they needed to replace 2 quarts (but I think they
meant pints of tranny lube)but was still low. Since I had
this changed just a few months ago, no leaks on the floor
at home or leaks visible on pan. I took to my mechanic who
did the work and found no leaks, the level was perfect.
Obviously can't prove it was not low, but I check all
fluid levels monthly so would have had to drop recently.
Seems to be very shaddy, don't know who owns it but if
they are concerned they will send an undercover customer
there several times in the morning. I had a coupon for $25
service, they said the coupon isn't valid during their $10
off early bird special which would be more but they
eventually gave me the coupon price. Seriously, have you
ever heard for not accepting a set coupon price over a
special timed price? I can understand a percentage off
coupon not being accepted during a special offer but this
was not the case.

Mitchell in Alexandria, LA No Priority
I went to
the jiffy lube located on Mac Author Dr. Alexandria La. I
arrived at approximately 940 am. All I wanted was an
inspection sticker. The thing that got me is that people
came after me they would inspect there vehicle before me.
At 1030am I asked for my keys and left. I have a job to go
to as well as anyone else. I will never go there again.
They was not that busy anyways, everyone walking around
looking lost.

[1911]
Salvador in Los Angeles, CA Fries with
Your Oil?
I am a part-time mechanic. That is my
hobby, not something I am forced to do. I have taken
classes and have disassembled and reassembled motors. I am
currently studying for my ASE test. My story begins
with my work truck, I was in a rush and was headed out of
town, was overdue for an oil change and I didn't want to
get into in myself so I took the truck to the drive-in
Jiffy Lube.
The manager came up to the truck
while he was on the cell phone, I explained to him that
the needle reading for the transmission was off (meaning
if it is in "N" for neutral it is actually in park).
After they got the truck in the bay, I told him NOT to
touch my air cleaner. I explained it was a KN lifetime and
I just cleaned it so there would be no need to change it.
He told me it was policy and they had to check it.
He said my oil was low and that he couldn't offer a
warranty with the oil change, (what is an oil change
warranty, for the oil? Doesn't make any sense).
So I went out to check on my vehicle
and the worker was trying to force the lever for the
transmission into place, pulling on it really hard. I told
him not to pull on it and explained to him the same thing
I told the manager in the beginning before the service,
while I was doing this another worker approached me rudely
and said "we can't have you back here Dawg!" I stayed back
there long enough to make sure moron #1 didn't destroy my
transmission. I paid $55.00 and took a look under the car
a few days later. My old oil filter and after I changed
the oil, dirty oil mixed with the oil they "topped off"
added. And the only task that they were capable of doing,
washing my windows and vacuuming my carpets, they didn't
even bother to do.

I stumbled upon your site and being
an active employee at Jiffy Lube, I'd like to share my
personal testimony with your readers. Feel free to post my
email address, as I have no problem helping people out
with any additional information I can provide.
I work for a Jiffy Lube somewhere in
northern VA. It's true that more shops than not are less
than optimal, however, I have a few tips I hope your
readers will find helpful.
1. First impressions go a long way.
Simply pulling onto the lot will give you valuable
information about the employees and management of a given
store. Per JLI policy you're required to be acknowledged
within 10 seconds of pulling onto the lot. That
acknowledgement should promptly, if not immediately, be
followed by a greet by either a customer service adviser
or courtesy technician. Read your greeter's face; do they
look happy to see you? They should. Do they look like they
enjoy their job? They should. If they don't, turn around.

[1922] Stephen in Cedar City, UT No Oil
Destroys Engine
Following service the engine had a
rod bearing failure just under 3000 miles following the
services. A local professional mechanic found the engine
to be over 4 1/2 quarts low in oil, no oil leaks, no signs
of burning oil. His and my presumption is the engine was,
for whatever reasons, not completely filled at the time of
service. There appear to be no other or any other reasons
for the lack of oil in the engine that caused the failure.
There has been no service anywhere else. The local
manager, John, while sympathizing with the situation
checked records and was going to call back. He somehow ,
conveniently, lost my phone number requiring me to follow
up again with him. He was going to have the area
supervisor contact me for follow up. I have not had the
simple courtesy of a reply from the supervisor or manager
in over a week. Mistakes can be made, understandable. Not
standing up to a problem situation or acting like it just
might go away if ignored is something else. I would
appreciate a national level escalation of this situation
and a responsible resolve from Jiffy Lube, a company I
thought I could trust for the past several years.
[1917] Brad
in Eugene, OR No Oil Destroys Engine
Long story made short. They didn't
install the oil filter correctly in my late model Mercedes
300sd turbo diesel. Lost most of the oil, shuddered and
broke down within 8 blocks. My mechanic said engine was
compromised (obviously) and needed to be replaced. There
mechanic said it is fine. Noticeable lower engine knocking
developed immediately. It happened on Oct 6 2011 at west
7th J.L. In Eugene, Oregon. Just hired attorney after no
communication for nearly 2 months. Do it yourself or have
a mechanic do it!
[1913] Robert
in Johnstown, PA No Oil Destroys Engine
My daughter took her 1998 Toyota
Camry to the Jiffy Lube in Johnstown, PA to get the oil
changed before heading back to college. She had it changed
on Thursday the 19th of January. On Friday the
20th on her way up the highway the oil filter
came off. After calling Jiffy Lube, they sent someone down
and took pictures of the hole in the motor as the
connecting rod was pushed out of the motor. They called me
today the 27th and informed me that they are
not responsible for it and will not cover it. How they can
figure that after they changed the oil the day before????
I have been a regular customer there for years, but
needless to say that will end know, and I will make sure
that people know what happened.
[1889] Dalton
in Arlington Heights, IL Oil Filter Causes
Engine Failure
I want to first say that I usually
change my own oil. But I really needed to get my oil
changed and it was to cold for me to do it my self. About
10 miles after I had gotten my oil changed my car started
to act up and the check engine light flipped on. I decided
to pull of into a local shopping center to see what was
going on. I looked in the engine and didn't see anything
that was wrong. I then decided to take a look under my car
and that where i found the problem. When i looked
underneath the car i saw oil dripping from my oil filter.
So i decided to take a look at it and see why it was
leaking. Jiffy Lube never tighten my oil filter and i was
just hanging there. I took it to my local auto shop and
had them check it out. Turns out by them not putting the
filter on, i blew my engine out. I blew out all my pistons
and had to get my engine replaced. Jiffy lube should buy
me a new car...
[1882] Big

Engine
Hi I took my 95 vw jetta into jiffy
lube roseburg oregon they put the wrong oil in my car and
denied it then tried to charge me for a new oil change the
motor is now shot and the mechanic is swapping the motor
now looks to be about 2-3k in cost total.
[1859] Samuel
in Oakland, CA No Oil Destroys Engine
About a month ago i went in a got
an oil change at jiffy lube in long beach ca. I work close
so i am only driving about <20 miles a day.
Last weekend i drove my car up to
Oakland and my car died on the bridge. after getting in
towed i found out that the oil plug was no longer on the
car and that it must not have been put on properly let
alone tightened. The mechanic said that the lazy, careless
oil change i received was the reason for all my oil
draining and my engine frying. Although Jiffy Lube has
taken full responsibility. i will NEVER go to them again,
the inconvenience this has all cost me has been horrific,
let alone time consuming.
[1824] Danny
in St. Charles, MO
Engine Flush
Destroyed Engine
I went to
Jiffy Lube #613 in St. Charles, MO to have a simple oil
change. The technician called me out to the bay. I was
expecting the usual sales pitch for the extras they always
try to sell me. This time the technician told me that I
needed an Engine Flush performed because my engine was
showing signs of “Heavy Sludge”.
He said
the flush would clean out and flush all of the old, dirty
sludge from my engine leaving me with a clean engine and a
longer engine life. I told him that I just wanted my oil
changed, but asked if he thought I really NEEDED it or if
it could wait for another visit. He told me that I need to
have it done today because there is a lot of sludge in the
engine and it needs to come out right away. Well, stupid
me agreed to it. I stupidly thought his training on the
product (which is a chemical solvent) and procedures of
how to do it in conjunction with further training on when
and why to perform the service and when and why NOT to
perform the service, all of his expertise would allow him
to make the best decision. My car only had 60,000 miles on
it and I plan on keeping it for a long time. My next own
words still haunt me: “Ok, Sure. Go ahead, If you think I
need it.” Those words keep echoing in my head as I lay
awake at night.
Well,
40-50 miles down the highway later, my engine was
destroyed.

[1819] RP in
Savannah, GA Insufficient Oil Destroys
Engine
On Friday, 10
September, I took my vehicle in for an oil change. The car was driven
for maybe 75 miles or less on 10 September (Saturday), parked all
day/night Sunday...and on Monday while driving it to work, the engine
started a loud knocking noise. After getting the car towed and checked
at our auto mechanic, it was found to have no oil in the engine, which
resulted in a now bad engine in need of repair.
Jiffy Lube happens to be right across the street from our mechanic,
(Which was closed on Saturday and why we went to Jiffy Lube
originally) so I first went to Jiffy Lube about the issue, Someone
from Jiffy Lube walked over to the auto shop, insisted repeatedly on
bringing the car over to Jiffy Lube, but under the mechanics advice to
me, I denied movement of the vehicle.
The Jiffy Lube associate then went and got 2 quarts of oil from his
shop, added into the 'supposedly full' engine and afterwards claimed
that the engine had oil in it. I got a call from the regional manager
and there was no progress. I called corporate and the corporate office
had the regional manager call me again, claiming that it was not their
fault. There was no type of investigation done, The auto shop vouches
that the vehicle had no oil when received and vouches that the engine
was in perfect working condition before the incident.....(They
actually worked on the car prior). I am now at an inconvenience of not
having my vehicle and forced to go to small claims court.
[1812] Frank
in Mashpee, MA No Oil Destroys Engine
My son purchased his first car a 1991
Peugeot. I had the oil changed at your store in Mashpee,
Massachusetts. Left the store and smoke was pouring out of
the tailpipe. Went back and the manager said that the
forgot to remove the air outake tube and some oil must
have gotten into it. Left it running at the store till the
smoke stopped. After that the car did not run the same.
Five day later it starting knocking and seized up. I took
it to a mechanic and he said it had no oil and this caused
the engine to stop.
What should we do? I am not a
mechanic I have taken all our cars to your store and never
had a problem. The mechanic says it is directly related.
The care was a 1991 but ran great. It was my sons first
car and he worked all summer to pay for it. Now he is left
with nothing.
[1719] Edward Fuel Cleaning
Destroys Engine
It started on April 14, 2012. I had a
coupon for a $10 off oil change for Jiffy Lube, and
another from Firestone. I decided to go to Jiffy lube
because I didn't need an appointment. Now I regret not
waiting 30-40 min. more. I asked for the oil change and
fuel system cleaning on my 98 Chevy Tahoe. When they
finished the oil change, they took the truck to front to
finish the fuel cleaning. At that time I notice the guy
flooring the gas all the way and a lot of white smoke
coming out. The truck had no gas at the time, so I was
concerned. Soon after that they took the truck for a car
wash. When the truck came back, I noticed it was making a
weird noise. My truck has over 165,000 miles on it by the
way. I thought maybe it was because it was it need gas.
Soon after that I fuelled up and left. 30 min. later the
noise is getting louder and louder. I then called
Jiffy Lube back and explained the problem, they told me to
bring it back and they would check it for me. Once I did
that they inspected the truck and could not find anything
wrong. The manager said the truck was just old and I
needed a new engine. I didn't need a new engine before
taking it to them, so why would I need one now. I paid
over $90 so they can damage my engine. Should have gone to
Firestone were they know my name. Thanks to Jiffy lube I
have no truck. I will never go back again, even if it was
the last shop in the world. They offered to pay the
repairs and take the truck to their shop, but at the end
of the day that shop is going to be on their side so they
don't have to pay any thing, If that's the case I have to
pay out of my pocket.

[1254] Cliff No Change Oil @
3,000 Miles
I am employed
at an independent auto repair shop, specializing in German cars.
While I don't have occasion to patronize Jiffy Lube, I do have a
problem with their blanket 3,000 mile oil change recommendation.
Most modern automobiles simply do not need oil changes this often.
It's a waste of time and money, and it's also bad for the
environment in that excessive waste oil is generated. All of the
new German cars have manufacturer-recommended oil change intervals
of 10,000 miles or one year. This is absolutely not a problem as
long as the proper oils and filters are used.
As far as I'm
concerned, Jiffy Lube (and the other quick oil change outlets) need
to change their business models to reflect changing technology.

-
Drain
Plugs
I have seen dozens of drain plugs left finger-tight, and at least
two that were tightened to where the threads stripped and the
drain plug was replaced with an expandable rubber stopper.
-
Oil
Filters
I have seen many oil filters that were left loose, and even one
that had two rubber gaskets on it (which causes a HUGE leak) that
ran out of oil by the time they got to our shop.
-
Sticker
I have seen dozens of cars that have a Jiffy Lube sticker in the
window, but still have the filter that we put on 6,000 miles ago.
-
Tire Valve
Stem
The manager from Jiffy Lube brought us a newer GM truck with the
tire pressure sensor in the rim. Somehow, somebody there managed
to break the stem on the valve and they wanted us to replace it
before the customer found out. It is common on a lot of newer
cars for the serpentine belt to be routed around the front engine
mount. Apparently, employees at Jiffy Lube cut the old belt off
(most tensioner manufacturers warn not to do this) to save time.
They brought us a car that they cut the belt off of, and couldn't
figure out how to get the new one back on because the mount needed
to be removed.
-
Replacement of Good Parts
We have had dozens of customers (that I know of, I don't spend
much time in the office with customers) who were told at their
Jiffy Lube oil change that "part X" is bad and needs to be
replaced immediately because it is a safety hazard. Often times
the part is fine, and sometimes it is bad, but nowhere near what
should be considered a safety hazard. Brakes are very common.
They will tell the customer that the brakes are almost gone and
they need to be replaced immediately. Some of these cars had as
much as 80% remaining on the pads/shoes.

Beware of Black
T-Shirts
I worked for Jiffy Lube, as a manager, for a
very short time in Wichita, KS. Not only are the people they hire
young and inexperienced they are very active in hiring convicts on
work release while they are in jail. I cannot tell you how many of
the people I managed were work release people. More than off the
street folks. They hire the young, who are gullible and well do
anything they are told, and they ones who have no choice in the
matter but to do what they are told, these would be the convicts.
They have to work and they cannot complain. As others have said they
are all about the sell, whether a customer needed the service or
not. The management acted as if they were the only smart people on
Earth and everyone under them were idiots. To become a Jiffy Lube
manager was a big event in their life. I heard managers threaten to
beat up employees, fire them if they did not do what they were told
and the OSHA violations were incredible. The labor board should
really look into Jiffy Lube and their practices, at least here in
Kansas. I could go on and on but we all do not have the time. OH BY
THE WAY, any employee in a black jiffy lube T-Shirt is a new-bee. Do
not let them touch your car!!! What also is funny is how many people
you see wearing these t-shirts, turn over is horrendous.

Don't Take Chances
I am a 46 year old engineer who has always done his own oil /
filter changes. Because I have become more and more financially
stable and my friends have been telling me to stop "dirtying" my
hands, I thought I would finally breakdown and start going to a
Jiffy Lube. So I googled Jiffy Lube and this very complaint website
came up. Now, after reading all of these comments for the last half
an hour, I have decided I should continue to do this work for
myself. Why take the risk of putting my vehicles into the hands of
potentially inexperienced or poorly motivated individuals. I have a
decent personal garage with ramps, drain pan, and tools. I know the
older ladies across the street have taken their vehicles in to a
Jiffy Lube in the past. I think they are great neighbors and
perhaps I should start doing this small service for them also.

A Valuable Resource
After reading so many embarrassing,
humiliating and disgusting experiences that former Jiffy Lube
customers have had, I can honestly say I will NEVER take my car
there. What a pity that in the extremely competitive world of auto
care, a company could be so anti-consumer. Thank you to Jiffy
Lube Problems for this very valuable resource. You saved me a lot of
potential headaches and needless expenses.
